Twice in my life, California wildfires came very close to our homes, ten years ago and just this past month. Firefighters are today’s every day heroes. They risk their lives to protect people, animals and property. Based on a real event during the fires of 2007, I wrote “The Rabbi and the Firefighters” . A Rabbi opens his summer children’s camp to the firefighters fighting the wildfires, and they work together to preserve the beautiful world God has given us. It was published in a collection of my short stories entitled “A World of Blessings” in 2013, but the book in now out of print and I am pleased to share the story with children, parents and teachers.
