In September of 2005, my husband and I contacted the Jewish community of New Orleans and offered to visit at our own expense the children of New Orleans. But Katrina had just been too devastating and the community was still living with distant family, friends and in relief centers, and the offer was declined. So, we sent a donation to help with the physical recovery.
Last summer, after another Hurricane wrecked havoc on the city, we renewed our offer, and just last week, we celebrated Purim with the children of the New Orleans Jewish Day School. Special thanks to Lauren Loeb Ungar, Marketing Associate & Assistant Teacher and to Dr. Bob Berk, Head of the School, for coordinating and making our visit a wonderful experience and allowing us to do a mitzvah. Since pictures are worth a 1000 words, enjoy!
